Our adoptable "paroled pets" have successfully completed the first phase of our training program. Every dog enrolled in the program is evaluated for temperament and the ability to meet the rigorous standards required of fully certified service dogs. As you might expect, not all of the "trainees" end up as service dogs. The ones who don't, have great potential as regular family pets, and we work hard to match them with the right family. Generally, paroled pets are between one and two years of age, and have learned basic obedience skills. During their time in the SCPCP, they receive humane, high quality training from their inmate handlers, and excellent veterinarian care.
